is a trencher always needed

do you always run a trencher where you are about to put curbing? say a large flower bed with established grass all around it, can you just rake back the mulch enough to run machine through. thanks for any advise

sure, but I like a new clean line so I will still run it even if Im just cutting 2 inches out...

WE TRY AND KEEP THE CURB AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE, IT WILL SINK SOMEWHAT, AND IT LOOKS BETTER.
